THE PROJECT: TIMELINE

1992 U.S. House of Representatives authorized Morganza-to-the-Gulf Reconnaissance Study.

1994 Reconnaissance Study complete.

1995 Congress authorizes Morganza-to-the-Gulf Feasibility Study.

2000 Initial design of lock on Houma Navigation Canal completed.

2002
  • Federal Feasibility Report and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement released to public.
  • U.S. Corps of Engineers Chief's Report and supplement issued on Morganza.
  • Terrebonne Parish voters authorize quarter-cent sales tax for construction, maintenance and operation of the proposed Morganza-to-the-Gulf Project.
2003 U.S. Energy & Water Appropriation Bill provides partial authorization for a segment of levee work, allowing the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District to begin construction prior to total project authorization.

2007
  • Morganza is included in the Louisiana Coastal Restoration and Protection Master Plan.
  • Total project authorization is included in the 2007 Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA), adopted on November 8.
