MAC advocates for the Morganza system, local levee projects, and federal and state issues that impact our ability to protect and preserve the Terrebonne and Lafourche coastal community. Here are a few recent achievements of MAC advocacy efforts:
2012 – Terrebonne Parish voters approved a half-cent parish sales tax championed by MAC for construction of levees and floodgates along the Morganza alignment.
2013 – MAC advocates for changes to federal mitigation policy to reduce the cost and time required for levee construction.
2014 – The Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection System receives federal authorization.
2016 – Congress approves the Water Resources Development Act with language to streamline permitting and accelerate Morganza construction.
2017 – Funds from the Gulf Oil Spill fines are designated for the HNC Lock.
2017 – Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan is approved with Morganza, the HNC Lock, and Lafourche levee and restoration projects all included in the Plan.
2018 – Funding was allocated to complete the engineering and design of the HNC Lock.
